A new typology of open public space, “an urban toy for the city”

Pegasus Trail is a new milestone in the typology of urban public interventions made by 100architects in the Public Realm. In this occasion, the neighborhood-scale intervention landed in the ever-growing city of Chongqing, the 3rd largest city of China and one of the Chinese megacities with greatest growth rates in the past decade.
This project intends to be a new typology of public space, “an urban toy for the city”. Following the studio’s belief that “Play is not only for kids”, 100architects have designed an urban playscape for the city, and for all its citizens, regardless of their age.

A sunken access plaza inspired in a surreal and colorful blooming garden

Hidden Garden is an exterior renovation of a sunken plaza giving access to a mixed-use complex in Minhang, the suburban district in the South-West of Shanghai.
Besides serving as access plaza to the commercial and office buildings, the sunken plaza is also an open-air public space fully open to the public throughout the day.

An eventful elevated park crossing Shanghai offering a unique urban journey

High Loop is a proposal for the renovation of the Puji lu bridge located in Downtown Shanghai.
The project aims to transform the bridge into an eventful elevated park crossing the city offering a journey through one of the densest areas of Shanghai. The design organizes the circulation adding new functions such as viewpoint decks, greenery, urban furniture, areas for informal market and more.

A bus stop inspired by the Azalea flower that collects the rain water

The proposal is strongly inspired by local nature, dragging inspiration from Azalea flowers, often seen in not only in Jiaxing City, but also in Zhejiang Province. The design strategy is over-scaling the leaves of Azalea flower in order to create structures which offer shelter to citizens and users of the bus public transportation.

A playful & habitable landmark object arranged in a vertical way

A tower of cuckoo houses stacked on top of each other in the center atrium of a commercial space. Taking advantage of the only column that goes from bottom to top through the atrium, the design strategy consisted on dressing it with a system of houses structurally anchored to the column itself.

A water-park shaped as a fantastic seahorse in Chongqing, China

The Seahorse project, is an exterior landscape architecture project located in Chongqing, China. It is essentially a water-park shaped as a seahorse. It includes many interesting water features as well as a few seating areas and playing objects. The project also included lighting features for night views.

Inspired by the triangulation of crystal’s structures. The project is shaped as a huge self-standing hexagonal structure from which different fun features are hanging down creating a suspended public space.

Water dripping down the stairs creating an eventful "pool" in the plaza.

Its design is conceptualized as water dropping down the big stairs creating a pool in the plaza.
Conceptually the water drops solidify becoming seating features with triangular shading structures, transforming the stairs into a tribune toward the main plaza where the crystal pool is located.

Color strings come up to the skylight creating a rainbow of colors.

The project is inspired in the spectrum of colors that appears when a light ray intercepts a crystal separating the light into different colors. It consists in 3 circles of activities intercepting each other in the main atrium of the shopping center. The circles are either domes, for climbing and playing, or seating features for resting.

It is an explosion of colors that creates 4 rectangular stripes of activities.

The project gain volume at the center creating a hill of activities. From the top of the hill there are 2 slopes, toward one side are playing functions while toward the other are tribune and amphitheater functions.

A Bold Tribute to the Past, Designed for the Present

Shipyard is a vibrant public space intervention by 100architects, designed for the Shanghai Urban Space Art Season 2019. Located on the Yangpu Waterfront, the project draws inspiration from the shipbuilding history of the site, reimagining the skeleton of a vessel in striking orange steel ribs.
