ENCHANTED VALLEY

Enchanted Valley
Hospital Materno Infantil de Málaga | Málaga | Spain

Enchanted Valley is a renovation project for the entire children’s leisure & entertainment floor of the Maternal and Child Hospital of Malaga (Spain). Located on the 7th floor of the Hospital, this recreational floor is divided into three well-differentiated spaces: a multipurpose interior space that can serve as an indoor play area as well as a study area; and two outdoor terraces on both sides of the interior space, providing this playful floor with outdoor play and recreation opportunities under the mild weather of Malaga, all of it intended to make the stay of children in the hospital more enjoyable and bearable.

Understanding the important role that happiness and the mood of children play in the success of their recovery, backed up by scientific research that proves the actual benefits of introducing PLAY as part of their recovery, this project seeks to generate a true positive and hopeful impact in that recovery process of children through play and fun, so they can forget about their condition and fill themselves with will to live.

To tackle this motivating project, we have been inspired by the city of Malaga itself, characterized for being a city located between the sea and the mountains. When we realized that the outdoor terraces on the 7th floor enjoyed splendid views of the Mountains of Málaga on the North, and the Sea on the South, we decided to use that as a conceptual idea around which the entire project would revolve.

From there, Enchanted Valley concept was born, with the intention of creating a forest typical of a children’s fairytale on the North terrace and a magical seaside scenario on the South terrace, creating a duality of spaces to explore.

Due to the limited space available on the outdoor terraces, and in an attempt for trying not to compromise accessibility and the “interior-exterior” connection, we decided as a first action to cover the vertical columns, turning them into the trees of said magical forest, thus leaving available the largest possible horizontal surface to incorporate games and floor graphics that allow free playability and promote a more immersive experience.

© Tetris

Said exterior horizontal surfaces are treated mimicking the natural environment, where small flowers and plants sprout on the North terrace while algae and waves emerge of the South terrace, serving as seating and resting elements, or social play objects for interaction between children.

Once having the forest defined on the north terrace and the seaside on the south one, the indoor space is treated as an extension of both towards the interior, using the pavement as a visual element to connect both the outdoor terraces and the indoor space, where everything collides in the middle. The nexus that unites both worlds in the interior space is a central circulation area using wood textures and earthy colors, imitating a mountainous pathway, leaving the lateral areas for leisure, games and recreation, using vegetable color palette with green and yellow hues on the North side, and a marine color palette with blue and aquamarine hues on the South part.

© Tetris

Altogether, Enchanted Valley will set a new standard for children’s leisure and entertainment areas in Hospitals, considering it as a key part of the recovery plan for children and elevating the importance of its role within Hospitals, from a mere space to spend free time to a truly impactful space which strongly contributes to the successful recovery of children, as shown in the research study done jointly by Juegaterapia Foundation and La Paz University Hospital from Madrid.

WIRED SCAPE

Wired Scape
Guangzhou | China

An Entangling Forest of Imagination and Fun

Wired Scape | Official Video | 100 Channel

Wired Scape is an innovative playscape nestled within a residential district of Guangzhou, China. Conceived by 100architects, the project merges the essence of natural landscapes, the elegance of fluid geometries, and the excitement of open-ended play into a one-of-a-kind public destination for all ages.

Drawing inspiration from Guangzhou’s diverse natural environments, the design interprets two fundamental elements—Forest and Flowing Water—through abstract geometries and sculptural forms. The result is a forest-like playscape where every element appears as if spun from wires, wrapping around trees to form highly tactile, richly textured volumes.

The most iconic feature is the group of four sculptural “trees” at the heart of the playscape. These climbable structures are formed by pipes that spiral around central cores, resembling woven orbs. They serve both as vertical play elements and shaded canopies, interconnected by hanging bridges that invite exploration and imaginative play across different levels.

Inspired by the sinuous motion of rivers, the ground is patterned with colorful, curving lines that flow throughout the space. These lines define a “wired landscape” that stitches together multiple zones—playful plazas, relaxing platforms, and circulation paths—into a continuous and visually captivating environment.

Directly in front of the sculptural trees, a subtle sunken plaza functions as a playful amphitheater or “sunken lake,” offering a cozy spot for gatherings, performances, or quiet rest.

Wired Scape breaks away from the conventions of traditional playgrounds by creating a multi-generational environment. Children enjoy imaginative features that stimulate both motor and cognitive skills—climbing, jumping, sliding, and exploring. Parents and caregivers find shaded seating areas with clear sightlines, offering comfort and peace of mind while staying involved in the play experience. Young adults are drawn to the space’s sculptural aesthetics, photogenic details, and social appeal, making it a destination that is both playful and Instagram-friendly.

Throughout the landscape, visitors encounter a rich variety of interactive elements: swings, seesaws, spring seats, a round ping-pong table, merry-go-rounds, and sculptural seating. These elements encourage both physical activity and social interaction, while generous shading and multiple access points ensure year-round comfort and inclusivity.

Wired Scape is not just a space for recreation—it is a catalyst for well-being. It promotes physical health through movement and exercise, and mental health through creativity, social engagement, and moments of calm.

As night falls, Wired Scape transforms once again. Carefully embedded ornamental lighting traces select lines across the wired surfaces and ground, creating a sublime nocturnal effect. What is a vibrant forest by day becomes an enchanted, glowing landscape by night—extending the magic into the evening hours.

Ultimately, Wired Scape stands out as a bold and artistic statement within Guangzhou’s urban fabric. It celebrates the convergence of fluid silhouettes, forest-inspired structures, and collective joy—a new urban landmark where nature, play, and community coexist in a vibrant, ever-changing environment.

RUBIX SQUARE

Rubix Square
Fuzhou | Jiang Xi | China

A Playful Fusion of Art, Sport, and Urban Interaction
Rubix Square | Official Video | 100 Channel

Rubix Square is a hyper-stimulating public space located in Fuzhou, China, nestled within a residential area and surrounded by residential buildings. The project is composed of five distinct installations, each inspired by a sport or specific activity, designed to engage visitors in a unique and playful environment.

© 100architects

At the heart of the project is the central installation, Rubix Square—a massive, habitable sculpture and playground designed as a three-story building. This centerpiece draws inspiration from the iconic Rubik’s Cube, a game that has captivated people worldwide. However, in this iteration, the Rubix Cube is reimagined as a space you can explore from within. Visitors can dive inside this colossal structure, where they are encouraged to interact with its vibrant and dynamic interior.

Surrounding the Rubix Cube are four additional installations, each offering a unique and interactive experience:

The Hashtag: The first installation is a large hashtag structure that lies on the ground, designed as a labyrinth. This maze allows users to pass through its openings, exploring various spaces filled with interactive features such as lighting games, slides, swings, and other playful elements. The design encourages exploration and discovery, making it a fun and engaging experience for all ages.

Basket Triangle: The second installation is inspired by basketball. This structure features baskets positioned in unconventional ways—upside down, at various angles, and at different heights. This interactive installation is not just for playing basketball; it also allows children to practice their skills by aiming and shooting the ball into the numerous baskets, challenging their coordination and creativity.

Wall Ball: The next installation is themed around football, consisting of a wall with multiple holes of varying sizes and difficulties. Children can practice their aim by kicking the ball into these targets, honing their precision and accuracy in a fun and competitive environment.

Heli-Skate: The last corner of the square is occupied by a skatepark with ramps and slopes, designed for beginners to practice and improve their balance and equilibrium on a skateboard. This area offers a safe space for young skaters to develop their skills while enjoying the thrill of the sport.

The surrounding pavements are designed with a combination of stone and painted surfaces for the circulation areas, and EPDM for the playing areas that will receive the impact of kids playing and jumping on top. All of this is set within a grid of lines and colors that align with the main narrative, creating an exciting and lively landscape. Square planters with trees and wooden seating are strategically placed throughout the area, adding greenery and providing spaces for relaxation.

But it’s at night that Rubix Square reveals its most unexpected transformation.
As daylight fades, the entire playscape shifts into a surreal, glowing environment. Embedded lighting outlines the geometry of each installation, transforming the square into a luminous dreamworld that feels lifted from a digital fantasy.

The Rubix Cube glows like a giant urban lantern, with its colorful façades radiating from within. Its graphic symbols—circles, triangles, crosses—light up like icons from a retro game. The Hashtag turns into a glowing maze, guiding visitors through illuminated corridors with an almost cinematic atmosphere.

Basket Triangle and Wall Ball come alive with soft, targeted lighting, accentuating their sculptural forms and interactive surfaces. Meanwhile, Heli-Skate shimmers in cool tones, as if tracing the motion of skaters with lines of light.

The lighting is more than visual—it’s emotional. It adds depth, wonder, and magic to the space, turning everyday play into something extraordinary.
At night, Rubix Square becomes more than a public playground. It’s a glowing spectacle, a beacon in the residential fabric of Fuzhou, and a bold reminder that public space can be both functional and fantastical.

THE HUB

The Hub

The Hottest Youth Entertainment Destination on Egypt’s North Coast

The Hub Marassi | Official Video | 100 Channel

The Hub, located in Marassi on Egypt’s North Coast, is a groundbreaking entertainment destination, covering 60,000 m². Designed by 100architects for Emaar Misr, it redefines public space through bold, colorful design and immersive experiences that engage visitors of all ages, especially adolescents and young adults.

© Essam Arafa

In late 2023, Emaar Misr approached 100architects with a bold vision: to create a one-of-a-kind entertainment hub that would serve as a social anchor for youth, complementing all other public facilities and amenities for adults at Marassi. With just two months for design and six months for construction, the challenge was clear. Construction began in January 2024, working at full speed to deliver this immersive space in time for the summer season.

At the core of The Hub’s design is the concept of a “Big Bang”—a celebration of life and youth, represented by an explosion of colors, lights, and dynamic forms. This abstract idea translates into a visually captivating experience, where visitors are drawn into the space as if being pulled by gravitational forces represented by an innovative wayfinding system. Bold, colorful lines embedded directly into the ground guide foot traffic, enhancing circulation while adding a dynamic aesthetic layer.

The master plan features a “triple heart” layout with three major zones: a multipurpose event space, a playground, and Kids Town, all gravitating around the Central Plaza, and tailored to younger audiences. These spaces are carefully arranged to encourage spontaneous social interactions and self-expression—core to 100architects’ philosophy of creating public spaces that foster community engagement. The dynamic design invites visitors to explore, play, and connect, making it an ideal space for social gatherings and youth expression.

In addition to these key attractions, The Hub offers a wide range of activities, including an open-air cinema, go-kart track, roller-skating rink, sports courts, arcade, and flexible public spaces designed for allowing the ephemeral appearance of pop-up markets, concerts, and workshops. F&B and Retail spaces occupy 10,000 m² and 15,000 m² respectively, with container-based F&B outlets and locally themed retail shops, all designed to blend seamlessly with the vibrant aesthetic. This modular approach enabled fast construction while maintaining a striking industrial edge that resonates with younger visitors.

As the trendiest space on Egypt’s North Coast, The Hub has quickly become a hotspot for evening activities. With its success evident in the daily crowds, the project is already set to expand. Phase 2, scheduled for completion by June 2025, will introduce a larger playscape and even more amenities, driving further social interaction, visitor engagement, and commercial success. As 100architects continues to reshape public spaces, we are excited to push the boundaries of design, creating environments that are vibrant, interactive, and inclusive.

NOMAD’S CARPET

Nomad’s Carpet
Astana | Kazakhstan

A monumental urban carpet inspired by Kazakh heritage and symbolism.

Nomad’s Carpet | Official Video | 100 Channel

In the heart of Astana, Nomad’s Carpet emerges as a visionary public space and entertainment destination, inspired by the intricate carpets used by Kazakhstan’s nomadic tribes to decorate their yurts. Just like those handcrafted textiles, each knot and pattern becomes a colorful pixel with a purpose — from lush green areas and sports venues to playful spaces and cultural landmarks — woven together to form a bold, immersive urban tapestry.

This grand intervention, also referred to as the Juldyz Memorial and Entertainment Hub, transforms traditional Kazakh ornamental patterns into contemporary geometric abstractions. These patterns define floor graphics, landscape elements, and architectural forms, creating a rich visual identity that feels both timeless and innovative.

© 100architects

The layout of Nomad’s Carpet is structured around four distinct corners, each dedicated to a specific function. One corner becomes a vibrant sports hub with courts, fields, and workout zones. Another is transformed into an urban forest for relaxation. A third hosts a playful theme park for family entertainment, while the fourth offers a peaceful green park for gatherings and leisure. Each corner is complemented by a service building providing key amenities such as a training center, arcade, co-working space, and indoor gym, ensuring the site serves the community on multiple levels.

At the center of the project stands the monumental memorial complex, symbolizing the soul of the country. Four grand buildings — an art museum, a history museum, a library, and a conference hall — occupy the ground floor, forming the cultural heart of the site. On the second floor, four large exhibition halls are connected by an elevated green pathway that crosses through each building.

This elevated path offers visitors a unique experiential journey, leading them through Kazakhstan’s history and culture before arriving at the central water feature. The path extends into a balcony overlooking cascading water, creating an overwhelming sense of scale and contemplation — a space designed for reflection and admiration of the nation’s progress and unity.

All forms and shapes throughout Nomad’s Carpet are derived from the geometric abstraction of Kazakh ornaments — zoomorphic, plant-based, cosmogonic, and geometric symbols — reinterpreted into bold, colorful designs that shape the landscape, pavements, and public furniture.

At the core, the design reimagines the Shanyrak, the iconic circular opening of the yurt roof, a symbol of family, unity, and connection to the sky. Where nomads once gazed upward to navigate by the stars, visitors here look down from elevated platforms onto floating forests and pristine waters — a poetic inversion symbolizing prosperity and vision.

Beyond its monumental center, Nomad’s Carpet is a vast, vibrant public space filled with greenery, colorful pavements, sports fields, playgrounds, and gathering areas. It aspires to become an entertainment hub that attracts both citizens and visitors from across Kazakhstan and around the world — a bold, unforgettable landmark.

Nomad’s Carpet is more than a project; it is a monumental entertainment hub where culture, nature, and innovation intertwine to create a vibrant place of gathering, reflection, and celebration. Designed to attract tourists from around the world, it will position Astana as a major destination and a symbol of contemporary Kazakhstan on the regional and global stage.

Infinity Space | Official Video | 100 Channel

Infinity Space is a visionary proposal for a multifunctional waterfront destination located in Deira, Dubai, UAE, along the historic Dubai Creek. This bold and ambitious project strikes a perfect balance between contemporary design and a bold contrast with its rich historical context, offering a space that serves not only as a city landmark but also as a cultural hub for the community. Infinity Space is designed to become a defining point of reference, where modernity meets heritage, providing a dynamic setting for both relaxation and active engagement.

At the heart of the design is a striking red structure, inspired by the nearby Infinity Bridge, an iconic landmark that has long been synonymous with the area. The continuous, fluid form of the bridge is reflected in the architectural language of Infinity Space, where the form wraps around the site in a way that creates dynamic movement and connection with the surrounding context. The design is open, unroofed, and flexible, allowing for the installation of fabric or tensile canopies to provide shade when required, particularly during the scorching summer months. The adaptability of this structure ensures comfort for users while maintaining a light, airy atmosphere throughout the space, offering respite from the sun without compromising the design’s openness.

Infinity Space is organized into four distinct yet interconnected subplazas, each with its own unique function but all harmoniously linked by the overarching design concept. The first subplaza is a multifunctional area that facilitates seamless circulation and is directly connected to an underground tunnel, offering convenient access to the opposite side of the river. This linkage strengthens the spatial flow and enhances the site’s connectivity.

The second subplaza features a versatile sports field designed to accommodate a wide range of recreational activities, fostering both active engagement and community participation. Adjacent to this, a playful, pixelated playground is specifically designed for children of all ages, encouraging creativity, physical activity, and social interaction. The final subplaza features a dry fountain, which serves as an interactive and aesthetic feature, providing an energy-efficient cooling element to the space, ideal for the region’s hot summer days.

The project’s integration with its surrounding environment is further enhanced by its direct access to the waterfront. The design includes a small pier, allowing for water taxi access, establishing Infinity Space as a crucial link between the land and the water. This accessibility boosts the project’s relevance in the urban fabric and reinforces its identity as a true urban activation, promoting both environmental and social interaction.

Supporting the needs of visitors and the surrounding community, the city side of Infinity Space incorporates commercial buildings that host a variety of food and beverage outlets, along with tourist information facilities. A strategically placed pavilion houses modern amenities, including restrooms, ensuring a high level of comfort and convenience for all who use the space.

Infinity Space is a perfect blend of functionality, adaptability, and iconic design, creating a standout addition to the Deira waterfront in Dubai. This project is a celebration of the rich cultural heritage of the area, while also contributing to the vibrancy of the community. It offers a dynamic, multifunctional space where people can gather, relax, and engage in a variety of activities, all within a sustainable, flexible, and inviting environment that adapts to the evolving needs of its users.

The intervention showcases a series of capsules designed with sleek, electronic-inspired shapes, creating a futuristic silhouette. These unique forms also appear independently in various parts of the project, extending almost like projections of the capsules towards both the city and the waterfront. On the city-facing side, they host additional functions such as swings and hammocks. As they extend towards the waterfront, these silhouettes transform into a continuous, thicker handrail that doubles as a table overlooking the sea. Surrounding this table are numerous stools, making it a highly functional structure ideal for enjoying a snack with a view. Moreover, these silhouettes serve as interactive handrails, featuring entertaining elements such as musical instruments, telescopes, and selfie spots.

The outer surfaces are deliberately adorned in vibrant blue hues, creating an electrifying visual impact. In contrast, the inner surfaces of the capsules feature warm wood finishes, providing a cozy environment ideal for leisurely activities. These capsules serve diverse purposes; some are tailored for social gatherings and casual conversations, while others feature playful installations like swings and slides, offering plenty of leisure and entertainment options. The inviting warmth of the wooden interiors makes them perfect for comfortable leisure activities, lounging, socializing, and relaxing under their comforting shade, embodying the essence of the project named HUT.

At night, the project is illuminated with bluish and yellowish LED lights that accentuate the electric silhouettes, creating a sublime visual effect. The overall night ambiance is quite enchanting, fostering an immersive experience of rhythm and color under the lit-up, electrified structures, and transforming the surroundings into a human-scale urban landmark.

The design draws inspiration from magical mushroom worlds, turning fantasy into reality through large, sculptural play structures and playful landscapes that invite exploration, discovery, and social interaction. At the heart of the project stands a monumental mushroom castle — a vertical playground where visitors can climb to secret rooms and elevated platforms before sliding down spiraling slides back to the ground.

Surrounding this central icon, the garden is divided into distinct zones designed for different age groups, from toddlers to teenagers and families. Play equipment includes climbing nets, swings, mazes, sand pits, jumping nets, and seesaws, all carefully integrated into the landscape to stimulate creativity and physical activity.

Lush greenery, playful flowers, and colorful paving patterns reinforce the fantasy atmosphere, creating a vibrant environment filled with soft curves and whimsical shapes. Every element, from mushroom shading structures and seating features to lotus-inspired tables, encourages play, rest, and socialization.

A key feature of the design is the curved lakeside handrail — doubling as a social seating element where visitors can sit, relax, and enjoy uninterrupted views of the water, fostering a strong connection between the park and the lake.

To enhance activity and sustain the space commercially, a designated vendor area allows for a food truck to be placed at the center, turning Magic Mushroom Forests into a revenue-generating public destination that serves both leisure and business.

By day, the park is vibrant and energetic, buzzing with activity and laughter. By night, it transforms into a magical wonderland, with illuminated mushrooms and glowing details that enhance the dreamlike atmosphere and provide a safe, enchanting night-time experience.
