A massive structure that creates a waterfront destination in Deira, Dubai

Infinity Space is a visionary proposal for a multifunctional waterfront destination located in Deira, Dubai, UAE, along the historic Dubai Creek. This bold and ambitious project strikes a perfect balance between contemporary design and a bold contrast with its rich historical context, offering a space that serves not only as a city landmark but also as a cultural hub for the community. Infinity Space is designed to become a defining point of reference, where modernity meets heritage, providing a dynamic setting for both relaxation and active engagement.

At the heart of the design is a striking red structure, inspired by the nearby Infinity Bridge, an iconic landmark that has long been synonymous with the area. The continuous, fluid form of the bridge is reflected in the architectural language of Infinity Space, where the form wraps around the site in a way that creates dynamic movement and connection with the surrounding context. The design is open, unroofed, and flexible, allowing for the installation of fabric or tensile canopies to provide shade when required, particularly during the scorching summer months. The adaptability of this structure ensures comfort for users while maintaining a light, airy atmosphere throughout the space, offering respite from the sun without compromising the design’s openness.

Infinity Space is organized into four distinct yet interconnected subplazas, each with its own unique function but all harmoniously linked by the overarching design concept. The first subplaza is a multifunctional area that facilitates seamless circulation and is directly connected to an underground tunnel, offering convenient access to the opposite side of the river. This linkage strengthens the spatial flow and enhances the site’s connectivity.

The second subplaza features a versatile sports field designed to accommodate a wide range of recreational activities, fostering both active engagement and community participation. Adjacent to this, a playful, pixelated playground is specifically designed for children of all ages, encouraging creativity, physical activity, and social interaction. The final subplaza features a dry fountain, which serves as an interactive and aesthetic feature, providing an energy-efficient cooling element to the space, ideal for the region’s hot summer days.

The project’s integration with its surrounding environment is further enhanced by its direct access to the waterfront. The design includes a small pier, allowing for water taxi access, establishing Infinity Space as a crucial link between the land and the water. This accessibility boosts the project’s relevance in the urban fabric and reinforces its identity as a true urban activation, promoting both environmental and social interaction.

Supporting the needs of visitors and the surrounding community, the city side of Infinity Space incorporates commercial buildings that host a variety of food and beverage outlets, along with tourist information facilities. A strategically placed pavilion houses modern amenities, including restrooms, ensuring a high level of comfort and convenience for all who use the space.

This project is a celebration of the rich cultural heritage of the area, while also contributing to the vibrancy of the community. It offers a dynamic, multifunctional space where people can gather, relax, and engage in a variety of activities, all within a sustainable, flexible, and inviting environment that adapts to the evolving needs of its users.

Metropolitan Intervention

What is a metropolitan intervention?
This is the largest scale type of interventions that take place in the public realm of a city, related to the altering of an important portion of a city. A type of intervention of such magnitude and notoriety that impacts not only at neighborhood scale, but rather the way the city is perceived and experienced, becoming a metropolitan landmark, a metropolitan super-attractor of social interactions, and a trendy international destination for local citizens & tourists.

This typology combines urban planning and landscape design, intervening the city at waterfronts, bridges, parks, or whole districts, by improving the quality of its public realm, creating spaces of opportunity for collective outdoor leisure, mixed-use entertainment spaces, play & joy, etc. Interventions of this proportions catalyze major social interactions across the city, boosting commercial activity and real estate development.

This typology is normally used by Municipalities & Local Governments to revitalize public spaces and establish a unique brand and identity for their cities, making them more functional, aesthetically pleasing, and engaging for the community, with innovative urban solutions that enhance the quality of life and promote economic development & tourism.
