The Painted Scape is a 2d architectural configuration, which is painted and/or coated to cover a significant area of an existing urban scape. This architectural configuration only intervenes – whether vertically or horizontally - on the surface of the space.
The interaction takes place in the interface between the user and the painted surfaces - vertical or horizontal - in which the users finds information, signals, functional areas and spaces.
The main objective of the painted scape is to call attention to the existing space, inject it with a unique identity, and highlight spatial functions with 2d aesthetics. Through these actions, this intervention makes a formerly unremarkable space an attraction for users and customers.

What kind of paving material do you use to achieve this colorful pavements outdoors?? I am a landscape architecture grad student working on a project with a colorful walkway and play area and would love some advice on what materials to use to achieve such brilliant color!
There are so many ways, For soft surfaces best is EPDM (rubber floor) and white lines can be painted in top.
If you are looking for a more permanent and high end solution it can be done with color stone such as terrazzo for exteriors. But that is expensive.
Sometimes in other projects we have used just painted concrete. Painted floor with some epoxy painting for floor(like the traffic lines). But that requires some maintenance every year since the colors will slowly fade away.
