The Silo
Product | Object Plaza

Introduction
The object is called “the Silo,” because of its cylindrical structure resembling an industrial airtight container to store grains or crops.

It is composed of two concentrical circular components. One is the lower part: a platform for performance and recreation that invites the user to interact. Given its morphology, it provides a landscape of functions for public use. The second element is the “silo”, a cylindrical structure 6 meters high placed on top of the lower platform, thus reaching a height of 8.4 meters.

This is a very versatile component, since it can be used as a giant cylindrical screen for advertising or display. It can also function as a green wall, providing a vertical green lung and an unconventional green and fresh space, or it can simply become a sun shading structure, drawing beautiful and unique shadows over the pavement.

This project is both a sculpture and an authentic piece of street architecture. It is a memorable attractor with a host of functions that can be placed on a small platform (such as an inclined surface playground, a grandstand, a table area, or a wooden deck), thus offering users new possibilities to enjoy the public space.

The silo is also elevated from the ground as a landmark and wayfinding main element. This object adds value to the surrounding cityscape, creating a beautiful and playful landmark that attracts people by providing interactions. It would therefore be an ideal catalyst for commercial schemes.
